The Witcher Review: What You Need to Know about the Game

Released back in 2007, The Witcher is one of those games that managed to capture the attention of avid gamers around the world. After years of extensive development by CD Projekt and a lot of changes to the BioWare Aurora Engine, the game was able to come out as an interesting piece for players to try out. Its new battle mechanics, intriguing and immersive storyline, and a gritty setting are just some of the elements you should take note of when you play The Witcher game.

What is The Witcher?

The Witcher is an action role-playing game created by the Polish developer CD Projekt and is based on the book by Andrzej Sapkowski titled “The Last Wish”. An Enhanced Edition of the game has been released back in 2008, while a director’s cut was released in 2009.

The game is a good mixture of spectacular action and an interesting storyline. You play as the Witcher, a warrior who has plenty of years of fighting experience and have been subjected to various trials and mutations that have transformed you. You are a part of the brotherhood which aim to protect people from various creatures such as the undead, werewolves, and various other types of beasts.

Game Progression

The game features a dark and grimy world where you can expect medieval landscapes and towns. You play as Geralt (likewise known as Geralt of Rivia), a human who has been mutated and trained, granting him greatly enhanced strength and reflexes to hunt down monsters, along with the ability to use basic magic and brew potions.

The game starts as Geralt suffering from amnesia, and it is up to you to discover his memories of the past. In the opening scene, you’ll find Geralt lying down unconscious and is later discovered by other Witchers and taken to Kaer Morhen. As the story progresses, Geralt eventually learns about his witcher skills along with his true identity. The game uses a morality system which affects the progress and ending of the game. However, compared to other games that offer a choice of between good or evil, the game instead offers you a choice between a lesser of two evils.

Design and Quality

With the game’s highly advanced graphics and physics systems, you can expect an excellent blend of exciting action, complex RPG actions, amazing storyline, and tons of customization options. In the game, you’ll embark on an adventure filled with lots of plot twists and nonstop sword combat. The choices and actions you make in the game will affect how it will end.

The Witcher brings in an innovative gameplay into the table. You have three unique combat styles to choose from, namely quick style, heavy style, and the group style. It also features a unique combo system which can be activated with proper timing. Another unique aspect of the game is Alchemy in which you can be able to craft potions through the use of various ingredients you find throughout the game.
