The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Review
With the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt’s saga has yet grown into something big. The game is a game of epic scale that comes with a rich and highly detailed environment. It’s one where the same protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, transformed himself from the sword-swinging Witcher into a more mature and reflective hero. It’s basically the best fantasy RPG of its genre ever since The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim.
What is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt?
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the latest and final addition to the award-winning RPG series The Witcher. It’s an open world game where you play as Geralt of Rivia, a powerful and adept monster hunter, explorer, and hero. Like the previous two games, the Witcher 3 is dense and deep when it comes to RPG mechanics, not to mention it comes with a massive open world environment which calls for plenty of explorations to make and a lot of activities to engage in.
At the start of the game, you’ll learn of a child who has been kidnapped without the Witcher’s knowledge, so he embarks on a quest in a dark, vast world to rescue the child from the hands of an evil overlord. As you go on your adventure, you’ll travel across seas, visit island after island, cross mountains, and make your way through dark dungeons. Majority of the game involves fighting against monsters with the help of your weapons and magical abilities. With the money you get from killing monsters, you will be able to upgrade your gears or even buy better weapons and armors. You even have the option of spending your money on gambling or one-night stands. Like the previous games, the choices you make will affect how your story progresses.
Design and Quality
The game is certainly not for younger audiences as it contains elements of nudity, violence, and even sex. However, it is a really fun and exciting game that will keep you hooked as you start playing. First and foremost, you’ll notice rich and vivid graphics which make it look more like a computer-generated movie.
The combat is exceptionally fun, although it’s not for the faint of the heart with all the elements of gore, blood, and violence involved. Aside from the combat, you can also enjoy a massive open world environment which draws you to lots of explorations and side quests to complete. However, the choice is entirely up to you whether you want to focus on the main mission, or explore side quests and do various activities prior to that.
- Engaging storyline and gameplay
- Rich and detailed graphics
- Tons of side quests and activities to engage in
- Fun combat system
- Long loading times
- Frame rate occasionally drops
Without a doubt, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the best action RPG created by CD Projekt, and it’s a lot better compared to the previous Witcher games. Its rich and vast open world is there to grant you almost endless hours of gameplay. It’s definitely a must-try especially if you’re a fan of the Witcher series.
